an IDEAS Institute podcast
Our exploration of Joan Didion and Eve Babitz revealed how these writers understood that places aren't just backdrops — they're storehouses of consciousness, landscapes that shape the very psychology of those who inhabit them. This insight sparked something in Aaron, our Board President, who recognized the same phenomenon in St. Louis' legendary Gaslight Square. Aaron did what we do at The IDEAS Institute: he integrated the content with his own creative process, diving deep into the DNA of our city to create "STL DNA," a 20-minute podcast exploring how this vanished bohemian district shaped the cultural psyche of St. Louis. Named as a loving nod to KDNA, an independent St. Louis radio station started in Gaslight Square, Aaron's podcast demonstrates how great ideas don't just inform us, they inspire us to immerse ourselves in the stories that make our own places sacred. This is the IDEAS way: letting our curiosity lead us from someone else's vision into our own.
